Vande Bharat chair-car train at a platform — does Chair Car (CC) have RAC

Chair Car (CC) is a sitting class, so it works differently from the berth classes — and RAC is rare in CC. Here's what your Chair Car ticket status really means.

Does Chair Car Have RAC?

Usually no. RAC is built around two passengers sharing a side-lower berth, and sitting classes like Chair Car (CC), Executive Chair Car (EC) and Second Sitting (2S) don't have berths to share. So a Chair Car ticket is normally either CNF (confirmed) or WL (waiting list) — you rarely, if ever, see RAC in CC.

What You Get Instead: CNF or WL

  • CNF — a confirmed seat with a seat number.
  • WL — waiting list; you move up as others cancel. A CC waiting-list e-ticket that stays WL after charting is automatically cancelled and you cannot board. See can you board with a waiting-list ticket.

Which Trains Have Chair Car?

Day trains — Vande Bharat, Shatabdi, Intercity and Jan Shatabdi — run Chair Car (CC) and Executive Chair Car (EC). These don't offer sleeping berths, so there's no RAC stage.

Will Your Chair Car Waiting List Confirm?

It depends on your number, quota and train. Busy day trains cancel a lot, so a low CC waiting list often clears. Check your PNR confirmation probability and read WL confirmation chances by number.

Chair Car vs Sleeper / AC

In Sleeper, 3AC and 2AC you can get RAC (a near-confirmed shared berth). In Chair Car it's CNF or WL only — so if you're waitlisted, you need it to reach CNF before you travel.

Bottom line: Chair Car is a sitting class, so it has no RAC — your ticket is confirmed (CNF) or on the waiting list (WL), and a WL that doesn't clear to CNF by charting can't be used to board.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Chair Car (CC) have RAC?

Generally no. RAC involves sharing a side-lower berth, which sitting classes like Chair Car don't have. A CC ticket is normally CNF (confirmed) or WL (waiting list).

Can I board the train with a Chair Car waiting-list ticket?

Only if it clears to CNF before chart preparation. A CC waiting-list e-ticket that stays WL after charting is automatically cancelled and refunded, so you cannot board on it.

Which trains have Chair Car class?

Day trains like Vande Bharat, Shatabdi, Intercity and Jan Shatabdi run Chair Car (CC) and Executive Chair Car (EC). They offer reclining seats, not sleeping berths.

Will my Chair Car waiting list confirm?

It depends on your number, quota and the train's cancellations. Busy day trains clear low waiting lists well. Check your PNR confirmation probability and keep a backup if the number is high.
