The Route via Mumbai (Connecting Trains)

If direct trains are sold out, a popular alternative is taking any fast train from Delhi to Mumbai (Rajdhani, Duronto, or Vande Bharat) and then a separate train from Mumbai to Goa. The Delhi-Mumbai leg takes 15 to 17 hours, and Mumbai-Goa takes another 8 to 12 hours. Total journey time is similar, but you get more train options and can explore Mumbai for a day in between.

The Konkan Railway Experience

The stretch from Mumbai down to Goa is the highlight. The Konkan Railway passes through the Western Ghats, crossing over 2,000 bridges and through 91 tunnels.
