PNR Status Confirmation Chances: How to Read Both

Your PNR shows a status and a confirmation chance — here's how to read them together, what each status means, and when your ticket is likely to confirm.

Indian express train at a station platform — reading PNR status and confirmation chances together

Your PNR shows a status (like RAC or WL 12) and, with a prediction tool, a confirmation chance. Reading them together tells you exactly where you stand. Here is how.

First, Read Your Status

Your PNR status is your current position: CNF (confirmed), RAC (nearly confirmed — you can board), or WL with a number (waiting list). For every code, see PNR status codes explained and how to read your ticket and PNR.

Then, Read the Confirmation Chance

A confirmation chance (or probability) estimates how likely your current status is to become CNF by chart preparation. Status tells you where you are now; the chance tells you where you are likely to end up.

Reading Them Together

  • RAC + high chance — you will travel, very likely on a full berth. See will my RAC ticket get confirmed.
  • Low WL + high chance — likely to confirm; track daily.
  • High WL + low chance — hold a backup.

Your waiting-list type matters too — GNWL clears best, PQWL and RLWL slower.

How to Check Both at Once

Enter your 10-digit PNR on the PNR status tool for your live status and a confirmation chance together. For what the percentage means, see what 60%, 80% or 95% means.

Bottom line: your status is where you are now and the confirmation chance is where you are likely to end up — read both, factor in your waiting-list type, and keep a backup whenever a high WL meets a low chance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between PNR status and confirmation chance?

Status is your current position (CNF, RAC or WL number). Confirmation chance is the predicted likelihood that status becomes CNF by chart preparation. One is now; the other is the likely outcome.

My PNR shows WL — will it confirm?

It depends on your number, waiting-list type and the train's cancellation history. Check the confirmation chance alongside the status: a low GNWL with a high chance is likely, a high WL with a low chance is not.

Can RAC be considered confirmed?

Almost. RAC lets you board and travel on a shared side-lower berth, and it often clears to a full berth at charting. A high confirmation chance means a full berth is very likely.

How do I see my status and confirmation chance together?

Enter your 10-digit PNR on a PNR status tool that offers a prediction. It shows your live status and an estimated confirmation chance for your exact train and date in one place.
